它在查尔斯顿教育伙伴关系中的影响力是什么样的

By Dr. Katchia Gethers, Charleston Education Partners (CEP)

In education, organizations often talk about vision, strategy, and collaboration. Those ideas are important, but communities ultimately want to know something more direct:

Is the work making a difference for students and schools?

At Charleston Education Partners (CEP), impact is measured by how the organization helps communities strengthen schools and expand opportunities for students across the Charleston region.

CEP was established with a clear purpose: to work with families and communities to help build the schools their neighborhoods envision by removing barriers, investing resources, and supporting solutions that improve student outcomes. Turning that purpose into real progress requires sustained engagement with schools and the people they serve.

Understanding What's Happening in Schools

One of the ways CEP creates impact is by helping communities better understand what is happening in their schools. Education systems generate enormous amounts of data, but that information is often difficult for families and community partners to interpret. CEP works to analyze and translate school data into information that communities can use to better understand trends in student performance, identify challenges, and support informed conversations about improvement.

Through tools such as school data report cards and research briefs, CEP helps make education information more accessible to families, educators, and community leaders. When communities have a clearer understanding of the data, they are better equipped to advocate for resources and strategies that support student success.

Community Voice in School Improvement

CEP also works closely with communities as they shape ideas for school improvement. Through community design discussions and engagement efforts, families, educators, and local leaders are invited into the conversation about what their schools need and what success should look like for students. These conversations help ensure that improvement efforts are shaped not only by policy or research, but also by the perspectives of the people most connected to the schools.

Leadership and Partnerships

Leadership also plays an important role in CEP's work. Under my direction, the organization has focused on strengthening partnerships across Charleston's education ecosystem. I have more than two decades of experience in education leadership, including service as a teacher, principal, and district administrator. My work emphasizes collaboration between schools, community organizations, and local stakeholders so that efforts to improve education are aligned and sustained over time.

CEP's work also includes initiatives designed to strengthen leadership within school communities themselves. Programs such as the Parent Leadership Academy provide families with opportunities to learn more about education systems and develop skills that help them advocate effectively for their children and their schools.

A Shared Goal

While each of these efforts may look different, they reflect a shared goal: ensuring that communities have the information, voice, and partnerships needed to support strong schools.

Improving education is long-term work. Progress often happens gradually as relationships grow stronger, data becomes clearer, and communities become more engaged in shaping the future of their schools.

For Charleston Education Partners, that is what impact looks like, communities working together, informed by data and guided by shared commitment, to create stronger opportunities for Charleston's students.
